Wines2Whales and 94.7 MTB classic

Last weekend was again jammed packed with racing across the country and our riders were once again involved on all levels of the sport.

Down in the Cape, Paul and Yolande teamed up for the first time in 3 years to give the prestigious FNB Wines2Whales a go. The last time they rode together was also in Lourensford where they won the ABSA Cape Epic so it was fitting to return to the same place they had left off a couple years earlier with another win.  With over 1200 teams in the race this event is growing in popularity and it won’t be long before it is one of the most sought after race entries on the calendar.

Huge effort went into the hand making of specific bike trails and this, combined with the terrain and probably one of the best race villages from any event, made for an amazing 3days of racing. The couple said that it took a little while to get their legs going especially after some tough stage racing over the past few weeks. But once the diesel was warm it was business as usual with the pair taking 3 straight stage wins.

At the 94.7mtb race the academy “laaities” once again stepped up and Michael Moore was 7th overall in the 30km still racing in youth cat and his little brother was 3rd overall in the 20km and 2nd sub junior. Our other rising talent, Azulda won the sub junior category for the ladies as well as the 30km overall.

Some of our gang also took part in their first ASG night race (the run 10km) last week Thursday and had a blast showing their fitness on a different level and challenging each other by taking themselves out of the comfort zone. Big thanks to ASG Sports for putting on another great event!
